Why Some Leggings Go Sheer When You Bend

The fabric science behind sheer-on-bend: stretch, recovery, and light. How to pick leggings that stay opaque when you fold.

Why Some Leggings Go Sheer When You Bend · SOLENE Journal

Stretch without recovery is the usual culprit

When you bend, the knit opens. If the yarn has stretch but weak recovery, those openings stay visible as sheer panels. Soft marketing photos rarely show that stress state.

Leggings that stay opaque when you bend need two things at once: enough filament density, and elastic recovery that closes the knit after the stretch.

Bright rooms make weak fabric obvious

Studio fluorescents and window light act like a lightbox behind the fabric. Home try-ons in dim bathrooms lie. Test coverage near a bright window in a deep fold before class day.

  • Forward fold and hold for five seconds
  • Lunge with the back knee down
  • Wide-leg seated fold if you practice yin or mobility

How we build for bend coverage

SOLENE uses denser performance knits with four-way stretch and recovery. The Seamless Flow Set is the full-length option for deep folds. Nude Touch keeps a soft-matte handfeel with enough structure for slow-flow stretch, including lighter tones.

Coverage claims on our product pages are intentional: opaque through studio folds, not opaque only on a hanger.

FAQ

Can soft fabric stay opaque?

Yes, if density and recovery are there. Soft does not have to mean sheer.

Does sizing affect sheer?

Yes. Undersizing over-stresses the knit. Use the inch chart and size up for a softer hold.
